El desaparecido Monasterio franciscano de Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Orcera. Una aproximación a su historia y dimensión social

    La aparición de una imagen de la Virgen con el Niño en las inmediaciones de Orcera en fecha indeterminada impulsó a finales de la Edad Media la construcción de una ermita para canalizar la devoción mariana que rápidamente se extendería por toda la comarca. Décadas después, una comunidad franciscana se estableció allí, levantando un monasterio que estuvo en funcionamiento hasta la desamortización de 1836. Este artículo pretende analizar no sólo los aspectos históricos, sino también la íntima y rica relación que se estableció entre la comunidad monástica y la población, así como los vínculos con la jurisdicción santiaguista en cuyo territorio se situaba.

    The appearance of an image of the Virgin with the Child in the vicinity of Orcera on an undetermined date prompted the construction of a hermitage at the end of the Middle Ages to channel Marian devotion that would quickly spread throughout the region. Later, a Franciscan community was established there, building a monastery that was in operation until the confiscation of 1836. This article aims to analyze not only the historical aspects, but also the intimate and rich relationship that was established between the monastic community and the population, as well as the links with the jurisdiction of the Order of Santiago in whose territory it was located.
