Throughout history, some readers of the so-called Mozarabic chronicle suspected that the Visio Taionis (paragraph 19) could be an interpolation. In this paper, I will study the relationship between the Visio Taionis according to the Mozarabic chronicle and some independent versions, as well as the style of the Visio and its possible sources. I conclude that this text is not an interpolation, but an imperfect union of two different redactions by the chronicle’s author. On the other hand, I consider that it is not possible to determine whether the chronicle’s author used oral or written sources, although his sources were undoubtedly quite later than the historical facts fictionalized by the legend.
