Resumen de Fotografías de difuntos: entre el dolor, el amor y la memoria

  ¿Qué puede retratar una fotografía si el sujeto fotografiado se ha separado ya del cuerpo-recipiente que lo contenía? La fotografía de difuntos, al crear la ilusión de que la persona fallecida está presente –“está ahí en la foto”–, transforma el hecho fotográfico en una delirante fantasía: el muerto “todavía está entre nosotros”. Es por ello por lo que la fotografía “post-mortem” pasa por ser, en primer lugar, un instrumento de asimilación del mundo para, en un segundo nivel, devenir un conjunto de significaciones simbólicas. La asunción de la muerte no puede ser sino parcial en tanto que la foto no es ya una representación del desparecido sino el sustituto de su ausencia. Lejos de hacernos olvidar la muerte, la fotografía nos familiariza con ella. ¿Cómo es posible hacer imágenes hermosas de personas fallecidas? La fotografía cruda y encarnada de la muerte pese a todo, embellece la realidad y nos permite mirar lo que en la realidad no nos resulta posible. Convertir la muerte en imagen que puede ser mirada confiere a la fotografía “post-mortem” el estatus de “subject” de estudio haciendo posible un discurso sobre la muerte y la fotografía

  What can a photograph portray if the photographed subject has already been separated from the body-recipient that contained it? Photography of the dead, by creating the illusion that the dead person is present –"is there in the photo"–, transforms the photographic fact into a delirious fantasy: the dead person "is still among us". That is why "post-mortem" photography is, in the first place, an instrument of assimilation of the world and, in a second level, it becomes a set of symbolic meanings. The assumption of death can only be partial, insofar as the photo is no longer a representation of the disappeared, but a substitute for their absence. Far from making us forget death, photography familiarizes us with it. How is it possible to make beautiful images of dead people? The raw, incarnate photography of death, despite everything, embellishes reality and allows us to look at what is not possible in reality. Turning death into an image that can be looked at, gives "post-mortem" photography the status of a "subject" of study, making a discourse on death and photography possible
