Legal and institutional interpreting and translation studies: researching the literature using e-Lectra

  • This presentation introduces the bibliographic database e-LecTra and highlights some of the research questions that may be answered with the data compiled. E-LecTra offers a one-stop solution for either researching the publications on legal and institutional interpreting and translation studies or finding resources that may be useful when translating legal and administrative texts. The database includes full registers of papers published in scientific journals and monographs specializing in translation and interpreting and related areas, as well as handbooks, research papers, and other materials on different topics within the field of legal studies, relevant for the translation of legal and institutional documents. In April 2021, the total amount of registers included in the database is 184,178. In addition to bibliographic metadata, the database includes full texts of 141,298 registers, allowing searches in both metadata and full texts. However, the full texts are only available for local searches. Lists of references retrieved with different queries are published on the eLecTra-lists website and users may ask for new lists to be published on any topic they may be interested in. Current lists include lists of the publications by prominent authors (one per letter of the alphabet), papers published in those journals with most publications in the field (as per analyses conducted with bibliometrix®), and topic-specific lists, such as court interpreting, signed-language interpreting, non-professional interpreting and translation, public-service interpreting and translation or translation and interpreting in prison or refugee settings. Further, a list of special issues published on legal and institutional translation topics and the list of publications by the TRAP lab members are also provided. The presentation finally suggests specific analysis of the data included in the database which may be conducted using bibliometric and qualitative analysis tools.
