Resumen de Comunidad y brujería en el Pirineo leridano (1551-1566)

  Este artículo analiza seis procesos judiciales del periodo 1551-1566 incoados por la justicia secular del cabildo catedralicio de Urgell contra seis brujas nacidas en el Alt Urgell, Pirineo leridano. Focalizamos la investigación en la comunidad local para definir las creencias en las capacidades malignas de las supuestas brujas, en los recursos desplegados para combatirlas y en las dinámicas locales que las conducían ante el tribunal señorial. Además, la praxis conforme a derecho de Pere Abella, «legum doctorem», que lo presidió, nos dibuja el perfil de una élite local de juristas escépticos respecto a este crimen. La investigación parte de fuentes inéditas, procedentes en su mayoría del Arxiu Capitular d’Urgell y del Arxiu Comarcal del Alt Urgell.

  This paper analyses four judicial processes between 1552 and 1566 initiated by the secular justice of the cathedral council of Urgell against six witches born in Alt Urgell, a county in the Pyrenees in Lleida province. We focus the research on the local community to define the beliefs in the malignant capacities of the supposed witches. The study also explores the resources deployed to combat them and identifies the local dynamics that led them to the stately court. In addition, the judicial practice under Pere Abella’s law, «legum doctorem», who presided over the trials, draws the profile of local elite of jurists being skeptical regarding this crime. The investigation is based on unpublished sources coming mostly from the two main archives in the area; the Arxiu Capitular d’Urgell and the Arxiu Comarcal de l’Alt Urgell.
