  The article aims to present a reinterpretation of the Geisel Government’s Foreign Policy through the variable of anti -communism in 1974. The methodology will use historical qualitative analysis through specialized bibliography and diplomatic sources, among them the speech of the Brazilian president and the diplomatic documents of the U.S. Foreign Office of the 1974s. Although there is a realistic reading of the external environment through “Responsible Ecumenical Pragmatism” , internally this reading was restricted by the anti -communist policy of persecution of political opponents in 1974. It is considered that these controversial choices were a consequence of the limits subjected on the Responsible Ecumenical Pragmatism by external, internal, ideological and historical conditions.

  O artigo visa apresentar uma releitura sobre a Política Externa do governo Geisel pelavariável do Anticomunismo em 1974. A metodologia utilizará análise qualitativahistórica através de bibliografia especializada e de fontes diplomáticas, dentre elas; odiscurso do presidente da república e a fonte diplomática do “Foreign Office”americano dos anos de 1974. A hipótese argumenta que, embora exista a leiturarealista do ambiente externo pelo “Pragmatismo Ecumênico Responsável”, em âmbitointerno essa leitura foi restringida pela política anticomunista de perseguição aosopositores políticos em 1974. Considera-se que essas escolhas controversas foramconsequências dos limites, que a PEB esteve submetida pelas condicionantesexternas, internas, ideológicas e históricas.
