La tesis parte de un vasto y profundo análisis de la evolución del concepto de patrimonio cultural y las categorías que se le han adicionado en el marco de la Convención del Patrimonio Mundial.

    Alberto Martorell Carreño's book Cultural Itineraries and World Heritage is based on his doctoral thesis (UNED, 2008), for which he obtained the Summa Cum Laude qualification. The thesis is based on a vast and in-depth analysis of the evolution of the concept of cultural heritage and the categories that have been added to it within the framework of the World Heritage Convention.
