Resumen de Experiencias de educación STEM en el ámbito formal y rural

  En este capítulo se presenta una experiencia exitosa en el marco de la educación STEM/STEAM en el ámbito formal en un área rural. Para ello, se abordó el modo de contextualización, el primer acercamiento que se tuvo con proyectos STEM. Luego, se describirá la iniciativa que involucra talleres STEAM. Esta iniciativa hace parte de una colaboración internacional entre las siguientes instituciones: Science and Mathematics, Department Columbia, College Chicago; Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) y la Institución Educativa Rural Departamental Adolfo León Gómez, esta última institución pertenece a la Secretaría de Educación de Cundinamarca. Las instituciones mencionadas emprendieron el proceso de reproducir las experiencias exitosas de la STEAM Conference en los Estados Unidos, en una escuela rural en Cundinamarca, Colombia. La metodología utilizada es la de tipo cualitativo donde se incluyeron las siguientes actividades para la recolección de la información: (a) adaptación de los proyectos STEM/STEAM de acuerdo a las posibilidades locales; (b) preparación de los estudiantes presentadores en la conferencia a través de videoconferencias; (c) desarrollo de la logística local para la implementación —con la intención de que se pueda repetir en el futuro— de la conferencia; (d) la implementación de la STEAM Conference en Cundinamarca y, (e) estructura de la evaluación tanto de la experiencia de los estudiantes presentadores, como la de los participantes invitados a los talleres de la conferencia. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la experiencia ha sido altamente motivadora para las dos poblaciones —presentadores y participantes—, lo que llevó a las instituciones gestoras de esta iniciativa a continuar la cooperación y repetir el proceso en el siguiente año lectivo.

  This chapter presents a successful experience in the framework of STEM / STEAM education in the formal field in a rural area. To do this, the contextualization mode was addressed, the first approach that was taken with STEM projects. Then, the initiative involving STEAM workshops will be described. This initiative is part of an international collaboration between the following institutions: Science and Mathematics, Department Columbia, College Chicago; Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) and the Adolfo León Gómez Departmental Rural Educational Institution, the latter institution belongs to the Cundinamarca Secretary of Education. The aforementioned institutions undertook the process of reproducing the successful experiences of the STEAM Conference in the United States, in a rural school in Cundinamarca, Colombia. The methodology used is that of a qualitative type where the following activities were included for the collection of information: (a) adaptation of STEM / STEAM projects according to local possibilities; (b) preparation of the student presenters at the conference through videoconferences; (c) development of local logistics for the implementation - with the intention that it may be repeated in the future - of the conference; (d) the implementation of the STEAM Conference in Cundinamarca and, (e) the evaluation structure both of the experience of the student presenters and of the participants invited to the conference workshops. The results obtained show that the experience has been highly motivating for the two populations - presenters and participants - which led the managing institutions of this initiative to continue cooperation and repeat the process in the following school year.
