Resumen de Visões sobre Eshu: Imagens e interpretações da Cosmologia Iorubá na África Ocidental. O olhar dos cientistas sociais (1950-1980)

O texto agora apresentado, que faz parte de uma investigação de maior dimensão, possui como principal objetivo identificar a forma como as imagens e funções cosmogônicas atribuídas a Eshu – orixá do panteão iorubá – foram tratadas nas leituras elaboradas por quatro cientistas sociais que realizaram seus trabalhos de campo na região da iorubalândia, na África Ocidental, entre as décadas de 1950 e 1980. Apesar de algumas divergências observadas nas pesquisas analisadas tornou-se evidente que, o uso da tradição oral iorubá, permitiu - mesmo com as interferências das ações europeias nessa área do Golfo da Guiné ao longo dos séculos XIX e XX - uma análise reveladora do papel desempenhado por Eshu no pensamento e na estrutura cosmológica dos iorubás.

The research now presented had as main objective to identify how the images and cosmogonic functions assigned to Eshu –orisha of the Yoruba pantheon in West Africa –were treated in the readings performed by four social scientists who conducted their fieldwork in the region between the 1950s and 1980s. Despite some discrepancies in the investigations analyzed it became apparent that the use of Yoruba oral tradition allowed –even with the interference of European actions in the Gulf of Guinea during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries –a revealing analysis of the role Eshu by the thought and the structure of Yoruba cosmology
