    This article aims to presentthe methodology and results of the research done on the historical human occupation in the eastern range of the island of São Francisco in São Francisco do Sul/SCand their impacts on existing shell mounds,through different historical sources. The research that originates this article aims to draw therelationship between pre-colonial human occupations, fromthe29existing shell mounds in the region, and the historicaloccupationsfrom colonial and post-colonial periods. The results indicate intense human activity in the area surrounding these shell mounds for historical settlements since at least the eighteenth century until the 1960. Withdrawal of its material for use in the limeindustry, farming and ground streets and land are the main uses for shell mounds by these historical populations, leading to the partial destruction of 18 of these archaeological sites

    O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar a metodologia e os resultados das pesquisas feitas acerca da ocupação humana histórica na faixa leste da Ilha de São Francisco do Sul/SC, por meio de diferentes fontes históricas. Vinculado ao projeto “Assentamentos humanos pré-coloniais na costa leste da Ilha de São Francisco do Sul/SC: contribuição para uma arqueologia costeira e estudos de etnicidade”, dirigido pela Prof.ª Dr.ª Dione da Rocha Bandeira, a pesquisa que origina este artigo visa traçar uma relação entre as ocupações humanas pré-colonial, a partir dos 33 sambaquis existentes na região, e as ocupações históricas.
