    El presente artículo tiene como principales objetivos los siguientes: realizar un estudio a nivel general acerca de la iconografía mariana con la intención de resaltar su importancia dentro del arte cristiano; mostrar a los lectores un breve recorrido por este arte desde sus primeros momentos y focalizado en la figura de la Virgen María; las diferentes advocaciones marianas a lo largo de la historia, llegando muchas de ellas hasta nuestros días; y centrarnos en la imaginería mariana en nuestra tierra, seleccionando una serie de imágenes y contando su historia y sus tradiciones, algo que va unido inexorablemente. Imágenes no seleccionadas al azar: todas ellas pertenecen a La Mancha, región que ocupa parte de las actuales provincias de Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca y Toledo y que bien por su valor artístico, bien por su historia y antigüedad o por todas esas cuestiones, deben ser mencionadas en este artículo. La Mancha es rica en muchos aspectos, también en tallas de la Virgen de todas las épocas y estilos artísticos

    The main objectives of this article are the following: to carry out a general study of Marian iconography with the intention of high lighting its importance within Christian art; to show readers a brief over view of this art from its earliest moments and focused on the figure of the Virgin Mary; the different Marian devotions throughout history, many of which have reached our times; and to focus on Marian imagery in our land, selecting a series of images and tell ingits history and traditions, something that is inextricably linked. Images not selected at random: all of them belong to La Mancha, a region that occupies part of the current provinces of Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Toledo, and which, either because of their artistic value, or because of their history and antiquity, or because of all those issues, should be mentioned in this article. La Mancha is rich in many aspects, also in carvings of the Virgin from all periods and artistic styles.
