Resumen de La ferrería San Ramón de Garrucha (1860-1864): nuevo enfoque al estudio del único alto horno de Almería.

  En el presente artículo analizamos los diferentes factores que condujeron al cierre del alto horno instalado por Ramón Orozco en Garrucha (Almería) entre 1860 y 1864. Se analizan las características técnicas de la ferrería, las minas de procedencia del mineral de hierro disponibles, los problemas con la calidad de los hierros forjados, el mercado para sus productos y se establecen comparativas entre los costes de combustible y mineral de hierro con otras siderurgias contemporáneas. A pesar de contar la ferrería San Ramón con un alto horno moderno de coque y tener mineral de hierro a precios asequibles, el alto coste de importar el combustible y la reforma que suprimió los aranceles protectores de los hierros españoles fueron los que llevaron finalmente al cierre de la única industria de este tipo instalada en la provincia de Almería.

  In this article we analyze the different factors that led to the closure of the blast furnace installed by Ramón Orozcoin Garrucha (Almería) between 1860 and 1864. We analyze the technical characteristics of the iron foundry, the avail-able iron ore origin mines, the problems with the quality of the irons products, the market for their products andcomparisons between the costs of combustible and iron ore with other contemporary steelworks are established. De-spite having the San Ramón iron foundry a modern coke blast furnace and having iron ore at affordable prices, thehigh cost of importing the combustible and the reform that abolished the protective tariffs of Spanish irons werewhat finally led to the closure of the only industry of this type installed in the province of Almería.
