    From Cendrars to Bouvier, via Cingria, Schwarzenbach, and Maillart, travel literature in French-speaking Switzerland is very rich. The latest author to join this trend is Blaise Hofmann, a French-speaking Swiss writer who received the Nicolas Bouvier Prize at the Etonnants Voyageurs festival in Saint-Malo in 2008 for his book, Estive. Here, we discover Notre Mer, born during a trip around the Mediterranean in 2008: a six-month voyage to go through three thousand years of history. Notre Mer also refers to this matriarchal place from which we all come from, the cradle of the West, a sea that also embodies the most intense fears and hopes. Through these stories, the author presents the most popular subjects of this Europe transformed into an intransigent force, an increasingly stubborn Islam, or the Balkanization of its shores, but it also leaves an open space to talk about the exoticism of the Other.

    De Cendrars à Bouvier, en passant par Cingria, Schwarzenbach et Maillart, la littérature de voyage en Suisse romande est très riche. Le dernier auteur à se joindre à cette tendance est Blaise Hofmann, écrivain suisse romand qui a reçu en 2008 le prix Nicolas Bouvier au festival Etonnants Voyageurs à Saint-Malo pour son ouvrage Estive. Nous découvrons ici Notre Mer, née lors d’un voyage réalisé en 2008 autour de la Méditerranée. Six mois pour parcourir trois mille ans d’histoire. Notre mer fait référence également à cet endroit matriarcal d’où nous sommes tous venus, le berceau de l’Occident, une mer qui incarne également les peurs les plus intenses et les plus grands espoirs. A travers ces histoires, l’auteur présente les sujets les plus en vogue de cette Europe transformée en force intransigeante, de cet Islamisme chaque fois plus obstiné ou de la balkanisation de ses rives, mais il laisse également un espace ouvert pour parler de l’exotisme de l’Autre.
