  Because of terrorist attacks committed in recent years in Europe by Islamic State extremists, the image of “the Mediterranean as a divide between cultures”, as opposed to “the Mediterranean as a space of contact and reciprocal enrichment”, seems much more common these days. This image appears in the media and is shared by many Europeans on the Internet. The aim of this article is to present an analysis of samples of discourse available online in which “cybercitizens” create an image of the “Oth-er-terrorist” and through which the discursive ethos of Myself is visible. The corpus consists of short messages that are full of humour which, as a phenomenon strictly associated with self-effectiveness and the regulation of negative emotions, occurs particularly often when interlocutors discuss fear-inducing themes.

  Suite aux attentats terroristes perpétrés ces dernières années en Europe par les extrémistes de l’« État islamique », c’est l’image d’une « Méditerranée- lieu-de-clivage-entre-les-cultures » plutôt que celle d’une « Méditerranée- espace-de-rencontre-et-d’enrichissement-mutuel » qui est largement partagée via le web 2.0 par les internautes. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser différents échantillons de discours circulant sur la toile dans lesquels les « cibercitoyens » européens construisent une image de l’Autre-terroriste, à travers laquelle on entrevoit l’éthos discursif du Soi. Le corpus soumis à l’analyse est constitué d’énoncés imprégnés d’humour, car associés au sentiment d’auto-efficacité et régulateurs d’émotions négatives, l’humour est un phénomène particulièrement fréquent là où les locuteurs traitent de sujets angoissants.
