The literary works of Maïssa Bey are presented in the form of novels that deal with Algerian culture, society, and identity, and in them a readjusted French language, that substitutes the native “Algerian” language, is utilized in order to effectively serve the author’s intentions. The writer offers us a novel in which her native language is made overwhelming through culture and orality, which represent the two sides of a single collective memory throughout a French language she knew how to personalize. In this paper, we study and unveil the linguistic-identity dimension and the intercultural perspective that characterize Maïssa Bey’s writing.
