    En este artículo se exploran, de manera sistemática ya la vez global, las relaciones entre los diferentes comercios situados en distintos barrios gentrificados de Francia y las diversas categorías de individuos que los habitan. ¿Qué relaciones, simbólicas y efectivas, establecen los habitantes de los barrios gentrificados con los comercios localizados cerca de su domicilio? ¿Qué lugar ocupan estos establecimientos en las prácticas de compra y aprovisionamiento de estos citadinos? ¿Qué papel desempeñan en las maneras de habitar el barrio y de vivir en la ciudad? Son los interrogantes que sirven como ejes en el desarrollo de este trabajo, y sus res-puestas están basadas en datos provenientes de dos encuestas realizadas en 1997 y 2003 a los residentes de los barrios Daguerre (París); Pentes de la Croix-Rousse (Lyon); Bas-Montreuil (Montreuil); y Sainte-Anne, Saint-Roch y l’Ancien Courrier, que conforman una parte del centro histórico de Montpellier

    This article attempts to explore, in a systematic and global way, the relations among different types of commerce located in some gentrificated quartiers in France as well as the relations among diverse categories of individuals that inhabit them. What sort of relationship –effective and symbolic– do inhabitants of the gentrificated quartiers establish with diverse types of commerce located near their home? What place does these commercial establish-ments occupy in the general economy of purchase prac-tices and supplying of these city dwellers? And what role do they play in the ways of inhabiting the quartier as well as of living in the city? These are the key ques-tions in this article and their answers are based on data obtained from two surveys carried out in 1997 and2003 in Daguerre (Paris), Pentes de la Croix-Rousse(Lyon), Bas-Montreuil (Montreuil), and Sainte-Anne, Saint-Roch and l’Ancien Courrier, which together make up apart of the historical centre in Montpellier
