    This paper investigates how digital hypertextual fiction, due to its particular architecture, materializes a multilinearity that already exists as polysemy in printed literature.

    In order to analyze if the different reading pathways in a hypertextual novel constitute rhizomes, we herein discuss the work 253, by Geoff Ryman, in the light of the deleuzian concept.

    As a result, we identified a partial applicability of the concept to the analysis of the novel, which suggests the need to question the supposed identity between hypertextual and rhizomatic in other works of the genre

    Este artigo investiga como a ficção hipertextual digital, por sua arquitetura particular, materializa uma multilinearidade já existente como polissemia na literatura impressa. Para analisar se as diferentes rotas de leitura em um romance hipertextual constituem rizomas, o presente trabalho discute a obra 253, de Geoff Ryman, à luz do conceito deleuziano. Como resultado, identificamos uma aplicabilidade parcial do conceito na análise do romance, sugerindo a necessidade de questionar, em outras obras do gênero, a suposta identidade entre hipertextual e rizomático.
