Resumen de Evaluación de la amenaza yihadista y sus posibilidades de expansión en el Golfo de Guinea

La propagación del terrorismo de naturaleza yihadista en África se ha entremezclado con otros problemas sociales, intensificando las tensiones y la violencia ya existentes. Esto ha derivado en niveles más elevados de inseguridad tanto en países previamente estables como inestables. Así, los grupos terroristas operativos en la región del Sahel han aumentado su actividad en la frontera meridional maliense y burkinesa, llegando a establecer células de ataque en algunos países del Golfo de Guinea, que sirven también como centros logísticos y de financiación. Los recientes ataques atribuidos a un grupo yihadista leal a Al-Qaeda en el norte de Costa de Marfil evidencian la amenaza que presenta el terrorismo yihadista para la región costera. El presente artículo examina dicha amenaza y los factores de riesgo que pueden contribuir a la expansión del terrorismo yihadista al sur del Sahel.

The spread of terrorist violence of jihadist nature in Africa has intermingled with other social issues, boosting already existing tensions and violence. This has produced greater levels of insecurity both in unstable countries and in peaceful States. Thus, terrorist groups operating in the Sahel region have become increasingly active in the southern border of Mali and Burkina Faso, having settled attack cells in some countries of the Gulf of Guinea, which also serve as a perfect hub for logistics and finance activities. The recent attacks in northern Ivory Coast, allegedly performed by a group belonging to the Al-Qaeda-loyal coalition in the Sahel, prove the serious threat posed by jihadist terrorism to this coastal region. The present article aims to examine such threat and the risk factors for terrorist violence expanding southwards.
