La malaria o paludismo es una enfermedad potencialmente mortal causada por protozoos del género Plasmodium spp, capaz de parasitar la sangre de los individuos mediante inclusiones de las células sanguíneas y que se transmite al ser humano a través de la picadura de la hembra del mosquito Anopheles1, 2.
Para evitar esta parasitación es imprescindible realizar la detección y diagnóstico del helminto a través de pruebas de técnicas hematológicas, de inmunodiagnóstico y de biología molecular que permitan la identificación del patógeno2,3.
El diagnóstico de Plasmodium spp. se realiza en el Laboratorio de Microbiología mediante diversas técnicas entre las que se encuentra su detección mediante PCR anidada (nested-PCR), que será realizada por el Técnico Superior de Laboratorio de Diagnóstico Clínico.

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by protozoa of the genus Plasmodium spp, which can parasitize the blood of individuals through blood cell inclusions and is transmitted to humans through the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito.1,2 To avoid this parasite, it is essential to detect and diagnose the helminth through hematological, immunodiagnostic and molecular biology tests that allow the identification of the pathogen. 2,3 The diagnosis of Plasmodium spp is made in the Microbiology Laboratory using various techniques including its detection by nested PCR (nested-PCR), which will be carried out by the Superior Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory Technician.
