  En un 1-2 % de todos los embarazos, el embrión que comienza su existencia tras la fecundación de un óvulo por un espermatozoide no logra llegar hasta el útero y se implanta fuera de lugar (“ectópico”), bien en la trompa de Falopio, lugar de tránsito hacia la cavidad uterina (95% de todos los ectópicos), bien en el cuello uterino, el ovario o el abdomen, que no están biológicamente capacitados para sostener un embarazo.

  Actualmente se observa un aumento en la incidencia de los embarazos ectópicos, que varía según la situación geográfica y los diferentes factores de riesgo.

  Es importante un diagnóstico precoz y un tratamiento adecuado, ya sea farmacológico y/o quirúrgico para que la vida de la madre no corra peligro
