    This paper aims to investigate a neglected aspect of the influence of Augustine upon Boethius: how they first justify Christian faith by using historical, prophetical and biblical arguments. The method involves a verification of the reception of Augustine’s work by Boethius, by a discursive and argumentative comparison, and an analysis of their philosophical resemblances and differences through the two most relevant writings: Augustine’s De Trinitate and Boethius’s De fide catholica. It is shown that they first appeal to history, prophecy and Scriptures to found the Christian faith, but also rationally justify this approach and organize these beliefs in a theoretical structure. It is understood that there are three common features regarding their historical and prophetical foundations: a special attention to their present times, christocentrism and ecclesiology. In concern to the Scriptures, they are always the basis, even if sometimes the biblical framework is hard to be recognized.

    Este artigo visa investigar um aspecto negligenciado da influência de Agostinho sobre Boécio: o modo como ambos justificam inicialmente a fé cristã usando argumentos históricos, proféticos e bíblicos. O método envolve a verificação da recepção da obra de Agostinho por Boécio através de uma comparação discursiva e argumentativa, bem como análise das semelhanças e diferenças filosóficas através dos dois escritos mais relevantes: o De Trinitate de Agostinho e o De fide catholica de Boécio. Mostra-se que os autores primeiramente apelam para a história, a profecia e as Escrituras para fundamentar a fé cristã, mas também justificam racionalmente essa abordagem e organizam tais crenças numa estrutura teórica. Acham-se três características comuns em suas fundamentações históricas e proféticas: uma atenção especial a seus tempos presentes, um cristocentrismo e uma eclesiologia. Quanto às Escrituras, elas são sempre a base, ainda que por vezes a estrutura bíblica seja difícil de ser percebida.
