    Revisiting the poet Guerra Junqueiro (1850-1923), and taking into consi-deration the religious and political issues, in the light of which the poet’s past was weighed, and almost was his future mortgaged, the present paper proposes two roads or ways through which his so contradicted unity of thought runs. For this purpose, it travels around The Old Age of the Eternal Father, portuguese anticlericalism’s paradigmatic work, and The tear, story-metaphore-allegory, sin-gular moment of the junqueirian metaphysical thought.

    Revisitando o poeta Guerra Junqueiro (1850-1923), e tendo por horizonte as questões religiosa e política, à luz das quais se pesou o passado do poeta e quase se lhe hipotecou o futuro, o presente artigo propõe dois veios ou modalidades por onde corre a sua tão contraditada unidade de pensamento. Para o efeito, viaja em torno de A Velhice do Padre Eterno, obra paradigmática do anticlericalismo português, e de A Lágrima, história-metáfora-alegoria, momento singular no pensamento metafísico junqueiriano.
