INTRODUCTION: The pelvic floor is the intrapelvic área that is responsible for continence, support of pelvic organs, intercourse and childbirth. It provides active support through the tone of your muscles, which can be altered leading to pathologies such as urinary incontinence. Pregnancy and childbirth are the main risk factors for this problem, and training of the pelvic floor muscles is the reference treatment to alleviate it.

OBJECTIVE: To know the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle training as a treatment for urinary incontinence suffered by women after childbirth.

METHODOLOGY: The guidelines of the PRISMA for clinical trials in the databases Pubmed, Science Direct, The Cochrane Library, Web Of Science and PERDro, which included pregnant woman or those in the postpartum period to perform muscle training pelvic floor based on your activity. Five studies were selected for the review.

RESULTS: In three of the studies, the results are favorable towards the training of the pelvic floor muscles, reducing the symptoms of urinary incontinence and improving the strength of the pelvic floor.

DISCUSSION: Although not all the studies conclude obtaining the significant results they expected, all of them show and improvement in the symptoms of urinary incontinence, to a greater or lesser extent, after the intervention.

CONCLUSION: The supervised training of the pelvic floor musculature in the postpartum decreases the symptoms of urinary incontinence during this period. It is important to get patients to adhere to the treatment in order to ensure its effectiveness.
