    La diástasis de los rectos abdominales es una entidad relativamente común y puede tener consecuencias negativas para la salud. Se asocia habitualmente al embarazo, si bien puede estar presente en mujeres nulíparas, menopáusicas y en hombres. Aparece inicialmente en el segundo trimestre de embarazo para alcanzar su máxima separación en el tercer trimestre. La mayor recuperación se produce entre el día 1 y las 8 primeras semanas postparto. Todas las mujeres deberían ser evaluadas en busca de esta condición. A pesar de su importancia y trascendencia hay muchas lagunas en torno a esta patología y esto afecta tanto a cuestiones simples como cuáles son los valores de normalidad, cómo valorarla y dónde, hasta otras más complejas como su prevención y terapéutica.

    Diastasis rectus abdominis is a relatively common entity and can have negative health consequences. It is usually associated with pregnancy, although it can be present in nulliparous, menopausal women and in men. It appears initially in the second trimester of pregnancy to reach its maximum separation in the third trimester. The greatest recovery occurs between day 1 and the first 8 weeks postpartum. All women should be evaluated for this condition. Despite its importance and significance, there are many gaps around this pathology and this affects both simple questions such as what are the normal values, how to assess it and where, even more complex ones such as its prevention and therapy.
