De puerto a balneario: Los inicios turísticos de Constitución, 1870-1920

    El presente trabajo, aborda los procesos históricos por los cuales un núcleo urbano litoral portuario inicia una transición hacia un área turística que se irá consolidando en el tiempo. Desde una metodología de análisis histórico de fuentes primarias diversas, como diarios, documentos o¿ciales y literatura de época, se presenta como resultados la identi¿cación de los elementos de un sistema turístico inicial en la ciudad de Constitución, las características de la demanda y el per¿l de los turistas, los atractivos naturales y culturales presentes, la conformación de una primera planta turística y los medios de transporte. Por último, discutimos y reÀexionamos desde este caso algunas tesis y teorías generales sobre los destinos, en especial de Valls (2004) y Butler (1980).

    This research addresses the historical processes by which this traditional coastal urban center initiated its transition into a tourist landmark from the late nineteen-century to ¿rst decades of the twentieth-century. Methodologically, this work builds on the historical analysis of diverse primary sources: newspapers, o൶cial documents and literature. The results are presented as the identi¿cation of the elements of an initial tourist system developed in the city of Constitución, focusing on the characteristics of the demand and on the pro¿le of these tourists, but also taking into account the natural and cultural attractions, among others. Finally, we discuss and reÀect from this speci¿c case of Constitución and develop more general theses and theories about the notion of destination as has been already done by authors such as Valls (2004) and Butler (1980)
