    Este artículo presentará una propuesta de análisis de caricaturas políticas y memes de internet, desde la perspectiva sistémico-funcional. Se describirán las escogencias semióticas que señalan cómo se construyen estos textos, las relaciones entre texto y contexto y los modos de representación discursiva del mundo y del lector. Aunque existe un amplio y creciente cuerpo de investigación de la Escuela de Sydney en géneros multimodales, aún quedan estudios por hacer respecto a géneros no académicos y multimodales como los que serán descritos, que pueden ampliar el espectro de géneros a ser enseñados y aprendidos en la escuela.

    This article presents a proposal for the analysis of political cartoons and memes, from the systemic-functional perspective. It describes the semiotic choices that indicate how these texts are constructed, the relations between text and context, and the modes of discursive representation of the world and the reader. Although there is a large and growing body of research from the Sydney School into multimodal genres, there are still studies to be done on non-academic and multimodal genres, such as those to be described, that can extend the spectrum of genres to be taught and learned in school.
