    El agua, elemento vital en las zonas áridas, ha marcado las relaciones entre Chile y Bolivia. En este artículo se analizan las complejas relaciones entre ambos países desde el punto de vista del agua dulce, mediante una metodología cualitativa basada en la revisión de diversas fuentes. Se utiliza un enfoque geopolítico, enfatizando en tres momentos clave: la negociación de 1950, la controversia del Lauca y la discusión por el río Silala. Con ello, se busca comprender la relevancia del agua en las relaciones bilaterales, y mostrar cómo este elemento fue vital en las tensiones diplomáticas del siglo XX.

    Water, a vital element in arid areas, has marked the relations between Chile and Bolivia. This article presents an analysis of the complex relations between the two countries, from the point of view of freshwater, throughout a qualitative methodology based on the review of multiples sources. With a geopolitical approach, three key moments are highlighted: the 1950 negotiation, the Lauca controversy and the discussion over the Silala River. This investigation aims to understand the relevance of water in bilateral relations, and how this element was vital in the diplomatic tensions of the twentieth century
