La presente reflexión interroga al Nuevo Testamento acerca de lo que constituye la «esencia del cristianismo». Comienza constatando la centralidad de Jesucristo, a quien sus primeros seguidores consideraban cimiento y piedra angular. A continuación, observa que las confesiones pascuales en las que se asienta esta convicción no sólo dicen algo sobre Jesús, sino que también afirman algo sobre Dios, cuya imagen queda modificada al confesar a Jesús como Hijo y Señor. Esta nueva imagen de Dios aparece así como el rasgo más distintivo del cristianismo en los orígenes.

The present essay interrogates the New Testament about what constitutes the «essence of Christianity». It begins by noting the centrality of Jesus Christ, whom his first followers regarded as the foundation and cornerstone. It then notes that the Easter confessions on which this conviction is rooted not only say something about Jesus, but also affirm something about God, whose image is modified by the confession of Jesus as Son and Lord. As a consequence, the new image of God appears as the most distinctive feature of Christianity in the beginning.
