De la última "Ciudad de Dios" a la "Ciudad Inteligente"

    Las ciudades del futuro concentrarán la mayor parte de la población del planeta, serán el foco de la actividad económica y cultural, consumirán la mayoría de los recursos naturales, generarán la mayor parte de los residuos y serán responsables de la emisión a la atmósfera de los gases de efecto invernadero. Las ciudades, en suma, serán el foco de la actividad humana, que se localizará en una fracción de la superficie del planeta, con todos los efectos que ello conlleva. Efectos positivos, como aprovechar la concentración humana para estimular el desarrollo económico y la innovación. Pero efectos, también negativos, como el incremento de la población que habita en suburbios y el aumento de la inseguridad. La Smart City, junto con las Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (TIC), se erige como gran oportunidad para gestionar de la forma más eficiente ese futuro eminentemente urbano.

    The cities of the future will gather the most population of the planet; they will be centers of economic and cultural activity; they will consume most of the natural resources; they will generate most of the waste and they will be responsible for the emission in the atmosphere of the gases of the greenhouse effect. Therefore, the cities will be the focus of the human activity that will be located in a part of the Earth´s surface, with all the effects entailed in it. Positive effects, like taking advantage of the human gathering to encourage the economic development and innovation. Negative effects like the growth of that part of the population that lives in marginal zones and the rise of insecurity. The Smart City, along with the Technologies of Information and Communication, sets itself as a great chance to manage more efficiently that eminently urban future.
