    Este trabajo analiza la transexualidad desde un enfoque sociológico apoyado en el concepto de identidad como elemento clave de la construcción del sujeto transexual, utilizando la revisión documental y bibliográfica como método. Los resultados muestran que el ámbito médico ha influido de una manera destacada sobre la interpretación e interacción de la transexualidad por parte de otras esferas sociales, como la jurídica y el propio grupo social. De esta manera, la transexualidad y la nueva identidad que ella genera en los individuos se ve en constante evaluación por su entorno, tanto a nivel intragrupal como intergrupal. La construcción del sujeto transexual, por tanto, se ve problematizada prácticamente desde sus inicios, en las primeras manifestaciones, hasta que logra adquirir la identidad.

    This work analyze the transsexuality from a sociological view based on the concept of identity as a key element in the building of the transsexual subject, and the method followed included the review of documentary and bibliographic studies. The results reveal that the medical field has had an outstanding influence over how this reality is interpreted in other social areas, such as the legal sphere and the own social groups. In this way, transsexuality and the new identity it generates in individuals is constantly assessed by their environment, both intragroup and intergroup. Therefore, the building of the transsexual subject is problematized practically from the beginning –in their first manifestations– until they manage to acquire their identity due to the stigma that they can bear with respect to their physical appearance.
