  La ambientación medieval de El Séptimo Sello no sólo constituye el trasfondo histórico sobre el retorno de las cruzadas y la peste, que se convierte en motivo de reflexión religiosa y existencial, sino que propugna una forma y un fondo eminentemente teatrales. Se analizan en el presente estudio el tratamiento de las diferentes manifestaciones teatrales en el filme, desde la figura del bufón o el juglar a la kermesse, desde la “moralité” a la comedia, desde una forma anacrónica tragedia a la danza de la muerte.

  The medieval setting of The Seventh Seal not only provides the historical background for the return of the Crusades and the plague, which became a motive for religious and existential reflection, but also suggests a form and a background that is eminently theatrical. This study analyses the treatment of the different theatrical manifestations in the film, from the figure of the jester or the minstrel to kermesse, from morality play to comedy, from an anachronistic form of tragedy to the dance of death.
