    Los personajes de las novelas griegas tardo-antiguas y bizantinas se clasifican dicotómicamente como griegos y bárbaros. Sin embargo, en "Drosila y Caricles" de Nicetas Eugeniano hay un personaje extranjero, árabe, cuya participación en escena no corresponde tan claramente a la de un personaje bárbaro. Sugerimos que en esta novela se lleva a cabo una innovación del tópos anti-bárbaro y la indagaremos atendiendo a las posibles relaciones intertextuales que mantiene con otras novelas griegas y con el poema épico "Diyenís Acritas".

    Characters in ancient and medieval Greek novels are dichotomously classified as Greeks and barbarians. However, inNicetas Eugenianos’ Drosilla and Chariklesthere is a foreign character, Arab, whose participation in the scene does not correspond so clearly to that of a barbarian character. We suggest that an innovation of the anti-barbarian topos is found in the novel and we will investigate it attending to the possible intertextual relations with other Greek novels and the epic poem Digenis Akritis.
