Tecnologías de la vida en clave del presente vital. Perspectivas y reflexiones

    El desarrollo del presente artículo tuvo como objetivo problematizar tres hallazgos adscritos a la triada ciencia-tecnología-sociedad, referenciando los saberes y las prácticas relacionadas con la biotecnología y la biología sintética, las cuales instan la optimización de lo vivo y la vida. Estos hallazgos visibilizan los modos de funcionamiento de la biología y la biotecnología como tecnologías de la vida, para lo cual se acudió a las nociones metodológicas de gobierno y contraconductas tomadas de la caja de herramientas de Foucault, dado que estas se focalizan en la búsqueda de soluciones que maximicen el rendimiento humano mediante la aceptación de prácticas relacionadas con la transformación de la vitalidad. Resultado de lo anterior, en el primer hallazgo se indagó por las aplicaciones de la biotecnología; en el segundo, se evidenció el posicionamiento de la biología sintética en el sector industrial; y en el tercero, referente al bioarte, se problematizaron las implicaciones sobre el gobierno de lo vivo y la vida desde una perspectiva económica. En este orden de ideas, el artículo exhorta a la reflexión sobre la biotecnología y la biología sintética como parte de nuestra cotidianidad, lo que amerita la inquietud sobre la aceptación de las prácticas instauradas frente al bienestar humano y del entorno, interpelar las verdades que nos constituyen y pronunciarnos a partir de elecciones personales que develen nuestro posicionamiento ético.

    This study reports and problematizes three findings from multiple texts on the science-technology-society triad that refer to the knowledge and practices of biotechnology and synthetic biology, two fields that aim to optimize what is alive and life. Said findings reveal the modes of operation of biology and biotechnology as life technologies. For that purpose, this paper used the methodological notions of government and counter-conductstaken from Foucault’s toolbox because they focus on finding solutions that maximize human performance by accepting practices related to the transformation of vitality. The first finding questions the applications of biotechnology; the second one reveals the positioning of synthetic biology in the industrial sector; and the third one, related to bioart, problematizes the implications of the government of that what is alive and life from an economic perspective. Therefore, this article stimulates a reflection on biotechnology and synthetic biology as part of our daily life, which encourages us to be concerned about the acceptance of well-established practices regarding human and environmental wellbeing, question the truths that constitute us, and express ourselves based on personal choices that reveal our ethical position.
