Resumen de A vueltas con la vida: la circulación de mujeres en las fuentes hospitalarias portuguesas (siglos XVII-XVIII)

Este artículo estudia la presencia de mujeres en las fuentes hospitalarias portuguesas en la Edad Moderna, subrayando el papel desde el punto de vista de enfermas, peregrinas y empleadas en estas instituciones. El análisis se realiza en dos aspectos: descubrirlas como enfermas y peregrinas, por un lado, y estudiarlas como asalariadas, por otro. De esta manera, generamos un espacio para entender la vida de las mujeres en los hospitales, recorriendo sus fuentes y cruzándolas (comparándolas) con otras, con el fin de entender los caminos de la vida femenina en este contexto, en diferentes situaciones.
De acuerdo con las fuentes elaboradas, estudiamos las funciones de las asalariadas, prestando especial atención a las enfermeras, hospitaleras, lavanderas y criadas.

This work studies the circulation of women in the sources of Portuguese hospitals of the Modern Age, emphasizing the role of patients, pilgrims and employees in these institutions. Our analysis is carried out in two steps: to surprise them as patients and pilgrims, on the one hand, and to study them as wage-earners, on the other. Thus, we create space to perceive the life of women in hospitals, traversing their sources, but also crossing them with others, in order to understand the paths of women’s life in this context in different situations.
Based on the sources worked, we studied the functions of the salaried workers, particularizing the nurses, the hospitable women, the washerwomen and the maids.
