    Las líneas que se presentan son la primera parte (I) de un trabajo unitario, en el que se analiza la regulación actual de los acuerdos amistosos ante el Tribunal Europeo de Derechos Humanos (TEDH, en adelante). Aquí nos ocupamos del fundamento y las razones que justifican la institución, sin dejar de lado los requisitos y los efectos principales de los acuerdos amistosos. Para la segunda parte del trabajo (II) reservamos el tratamiento de la conformidad de los acuerdos amistosos con los derechos humanos, así como otras cuestiones relativas a la confidencialidad de los acuerdos, su impugnación o ejecución.

    The lines presented here are the first part (I) of a unitary work, in which the current regulation of friendly settlements before the European Court of Human Rights is analysed. Here we deal with the rationale and the reasons that justify the institution, without neglecting the requirements and main effects of friendly settlements. For the second part of the paper (II), we reserve the treatment of the conformity of friendly settlements with human rights, as well as other questions relating to the confidentiality of the settlements, their contestation or enforcement.
