The purpose of this text is to show how the social representations of the teaching profession intertwine with the emotions they activate in beginner teachers without previous training in elementary education. Findings of this qualitative study reveal that emotions experienced by these teachers are directly related to the social representation they have construed with regard to the teaching profession and perform different functions such as guiding and incentivizing their activities. This brings to light the need to consider the role that aspects of subjectivity (representations, motivations and affections) play in the teaching profession.
