Dimos Athens, Grecia
Greek papyri dating between the 2nd and the 4th centuries AD bear testimony to treatises about hieroscopy, the study of animal entrails, especially the liver, for the purpose of divination. The present article is dedicated to the best preserved handbook on this divinatory technique, P.Ross. Georg. I 21, which provides detailed instructions on how to “read” the entrails. A new critical edition of the papyrus is presented with translation and commentary.
