    El Opificio delle Pietre Dure (OPD) es un instituto central del Ministerio de los Bienes, de las Actividades Culturales y del Turismo del Estado italiano, en el que se trabajan sobre obras de cada período histórico, desde el campo arqueológico al del arte contemporáneo. En este ámbito, el Instituto se ocupó de la restauración de obras polimateriales, entre las que se encuentran el Gran Legno, de Alberto Burri, Cette obscure clarté qui tombe des étoile, de Anselm Kiefer, y el Memoriale Italiano, de Auschwitz, actualmente en restauración. Muchas fueron las obras sobre papel de los siglos XX y XXI restauradas por el Opificio, como dibujos de Mino Maccari, Franco Zeffirelli y Federico Fellini, de las que aquí informamos brevemente.

    Hoy se siente cada vez más la exigencia de intervenir menos de manera selectiva, insistiendo mayormente sobre el concepto de conservación preventiva o programada, también a la espera de que los científicos den respuestas ciertas acerca del comportamiento y las características químico-físicas de los materiales que cambiaron y que aún cambian rápidamente; y sobre la validez de los tratamientos ya adoptados y los adquiridos más recientemente, también ellos en continuo desarrollo veloz, como por ejemplo, los geles químicos.

    The Opificio delle Pietre Dure (OPD) is a Central Institute of the Ministry of Properties, Cultural Activities and Tourism of the Italian state dedicated to works from each historical period, from the archaeological field to contemporary art. In this latter area the Institute took on the restoration of multi-material works, among them Alberto Burri's Gran Legno, Anselm Kiefer's Cette obscure clarté qui tombe des étoile and Auschwitz's Memoriale Italiano, currently under restoration. Many were the paper pieces from the twentieth and twenty-first century restored by the Opificio such as drawings from Mino Maccari, Franco Zeffirelli and Federico Fellini, informed briefly in this article.

    Nowadays, the demand to intervene in a selective way is increasingly felt, mainly insisting on the concept of prevented of programmed conservation, and also on the wait for scientists to provide accurate answers concerning the behaviour and the chemical and physical features of the materials that changed and that still change rapidly; and concerning the validity of the already adopted treatments and those recently incorporated, them as well subject to a continuous and fast development, as with for example chemicals gels.
