    La escritura y publicación de trabajos científicos, principalmente en las revistas científicas, es un componente casi necesario de la actividad profesional en ciencias de la salud. En esta serie de tres artículos que publica Medicina Paliativa, expondremos las claves que nos ayudarán a mejorar la escritura de artículos científicos y a aumentar las probabilidades de publicación. El artículo original se presenta bajo la estructura IMRD, acrónimo de las secciones principales (Introducción, Métodos, Resultados y Discusión). El título del artículo debe ser conciso pero informativo. Un buen título es aquel que con el menor número de palabras describe de forma precisa el contenido del artículo. El resumen es una presentación breve y condensada, clara y concisa, de la información incluida en el artículo, sirviendo así de orientación para el lector acerca del interés que pueda tener el trabajo. La finalidad de la sección de “Introducción” en un artículo original es doble: mantener el interés del lector sobre el artículo y fundamentar suficientemente las razones por las que se ha llevado a cabo el trabajo. La sección de “Métodos” debe relatar, objetiva y ordenadamente, el procedimiento que se ha seguido en la obtención de datos para el estudio correspondiente, y debe permitir a otros investigadores reproducir el estudio llevado a cabo y obtener resultados similares.

    The writing and publishing of scientific papers, mainly in scientific journals, is an almost necessary component of professional activity in the health sciences. In this series of three articles published by Medicina Paliativa, we shall discuss the keys that will help us improve our writing of scientific articles, and increase the chances of publication. Original articles are presented under the IMRD structure, an acronym for the main sections (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion). The article’s title should be concise but informative. A good title is one that with the fewest words accurately describes the article’s content. The abstract is a brief and condensed, clear and concise presentation of the information included in the article, thus serving as an orientation for the reader about the interest it may have. The aim of the “Introduction” section in an original article is twofold: to keep the reader’s interest in the article and to sufficiently substantiate the reasons why the work was carried out. The “Methods” section must relate, objectively and in an orderly manner, the procedure followed in obtaining data for the corresponding study, and it must allow other researchers to reproduce the study, obtaining similar results.
