Este número especial ofrece un panorama general sobre los temas más importantes que se debaten actualmente en la historia conceptual. Expone los desafíos que enfrenta el enfoque y ofrece sugerencias sobre cómo enfrentarlos. La introducción se desarrolla en tres pasos. Primero, rastrea la globalización de la historia conceptual y discute las posibilidades de una “Historia global de los conceptos básicos”. Luego, describe cómo la historia conceptual se ha movido más allá del campo temático de la Geschichtliche Grundbegriffe y ha incorporado nuevos temas –en política y temporalidades, pero también en ciencias naturales y, con referencia al cuerpo, los sentidos y las emociones–. Finalmente, se analizan los nuevos desafíos metodológicos, centrándose en las humanidades digitales y los medios y fuentes no verbales.

This special issue gives an overview over the most important topics which are presently debated in the conceptual history. It lays out the challenges faced by the approach and offers suggestions on how to meet them. The introduction proceeds in three steps. First it traces the globalization of the conceptual history and discusses the possibilities for a “Global history of basic concepts.” It then outlines how the conceptual history has moved beyond the thematic field of the Geschichtliche Grundbegriffe, and integrated new topics –in politics and temporality, but also in the natural sciences, and with reference to the body, the senses and emotions–. It finally discusses new methodological challenges, focusing on digital humanities and non-verbal media and sources.
