La realidad que nos presenta el Antiguo Testamento sobre Dios difiere notable-mente de las imágenes que de lo divino se tenían en las religiones primitivas o extrabíblicas. Es más, la teología natural en forma de pensamiento filosófico puede llegar a comprender qué es dios, pero no que Dios es y experimentar su cercanía. De esta forma, la Revelación manifestada por Dios en el Antiguo Testamento y en la historia humana nos acerca a la comprensión de su realidad más íntima. Dios se presenta de modo progresivo a un pueblo acostumbra-do, como el resto de pueblos o religiones tribales, a la idolatría y adoración de numerosos dioses. La revelación divina nos presenta a un Dios que es Uno y Único, pero esta pretensión va más allá, pues la unicidad divina tiene un carácter universal y no solo tribal. A medida que la Revelación divina se va dando, se presentan aspectos de Dios que no dejan de ser sorprendentes, como el concep-to de la paternidad en sus diversas manifestaciones de Amor.

The reality that the Old Testament presents to us about God differs markedly from the images there were of the divine in primitive or extrabiblical religions. Moreover, natural theology in the form of philosophical thinking can come to un-derstand what is God, but not what God "is", and so experience his closeness. In this way, the Revelation manifested by God in the Old Testament and in human history brings us closer to the understanding of its most intimate reality. God progressively presents himself to people used to idolatry and the worshipping of numerous gods, like most groups in tribal religions, to idolatry and the worship of numerous gods. Divine revelation introduces us to a God who is One and Only, but this claim goes beyond, since divine uniqueness has a universal character that is not only tribal. As the divine revelation is shared, aspects of God are presented that are still surprising as the concept of fatherhood in its various manifestations of Love.
