  • Resumen
    • This chapter examines the period of Pedro Pablo Montesino Caceres's British exile in order to argue that it was a decade that turned a rural doctor into one of the most important Spanish pedagogues of the nineteenth century. It focuses on his stay in the British Isles, identifying his main source of income and his close circle of friends. Returning from his exile in England, on 18 October 1833, after the re-establishment of liberal rule, Montesino began a race against time to apply and spread the latest European trends on teaching and education. Montesino headed towards England at the end of 1823. In 1825, Montesino moved to the island of Jersey, where he lived until his return to Spain in 1833. His days as a member of Parliament during the period known as the Liberal Triennium had already brought Montesino to the field of education.
