    Los distintos caminos trasatlánticos entre Argentina y España me brindaron la oportunidad de conocer a José Luis Alonso Ponga, su orientación y conocimientos contribuyeron significativamente con mi investigación; intento en estas páginas contar este trayecto, rindiendo un humilde homenaje a su valiosa y desinteresada colaboración. En este trabajo se ofrece una visión distinta de la vida cotidiana de aquellos inmigrantes maragatos, entre demás castellano-leoneses, los que, a finales del siglo XVIII, en la Patagonia argentina, lograron convivir con una realidad americana desconocida y de gran austeridad. Todo esto sucedió en la frontera más austral del Imperio Español en el «Nuevo Mundo», donde los colonos españoles participaron de la gesta fundacional de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, el poblado patagónico más antiguo que perdura hasta el presente.

    The different transatlantic roads between Argentina and Spain gave me the opportunity to meet José Luis Alonso Ponga, his guidance and knowledge contributed significantly to my research; I try in these pages to tell this journey, paying a humble tribute to his valuable and selfless collaboration. This work offers a different vision of the daily life of those Maragato immigrants, among others Castilian-Leon, who at the end of the 18th century, in the Argentine Patagonia, managed to live with an unknown American reality and of great austerity. All this happened on the southernmost border of the Spanish Empire in the «New World», where Spanish settlers participated in the founding deed of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, the oldest Patagonian settlement that lasts until the present.
