    Fue necesario el derrocamiento de la dictadura y el cierre de la crisis revolucionaria para que surgieran estudios sobre el Partido Comunista Portugués. Estamos ante una historiografía reciente, dispersa, con poco margen de autonomía en el ámbito académico, a menudo entrelazada con estudios sobre la oposición al régimen, unida a las disputas por la hegemonía entre narrativas legitimadoras. Los largos años de clandestinidad y la trayectoria posrevolucionaria hicieron que prevaleciera una cultura del secreto. Así, los archivos del PCP permanecen cerrados, dificultando el acceso a las fuentes. A partir de la década de 1980 fue emergiendo una historiografía política del PCP, con incursiones en el campo de la historia social y cultural, más desarrollada en el período de la clandestinidad, pero sin líneas de investigación ni redes de colaboración consolidadas.

    It took the overthrow of the dictatorship and the closing of the revolutionary crisis for studies on the Portuguese Communist Party to emerge. We are facing a recent, dispersed historiography, with little margin of autonomy in the academic environment, often intertwined with studies on the opposition to the regime, coupled with disputes betwen the hegemony of legitimizing narratives. The long years of hiding and the post-revolutionary course made a culture of secrecy prevail. The files of the PCP, remain closed, making access to the sources difficult. In this context, from the 1980s onwards, a political historiography of the PCP has emerged, with incursions into the field of social and cultural history, better developed for the period of clandestinity, but with no lines of research nor consolidated collaborative networkst.
