Gonzalo Peláez, noble asturiano que gozaba de gran prestigio y poder durante los reinados de Doña Urraca y de su hijo Alfonso VII, se rebeló contra este último haciéndose fuerte en los castillos de Alba, Proaza, Buanga, Tudela y Gozón. Las razones de esta rebelión no están muy claras.

Gonzalo Peláez, an Asturian nobleman, who had great prestige and power during the reign of Doña Urraca and her son Alfonso VI, rebelled against the latter, entrenching himself in the castles of Alba, Proaza, Buenga, Tudela and Gozón. The motives of this rebellion are not clear.
