    A vinda da Família Real portuguesa para o Brasil, em 1808, acarretou em uma nova configuração das relações políticas e comerciais especialmente tangentes às relações Portugal e Inglaterra, no Brasil colônia. O projeto da união de domínios ibéricos sul-americanos sob a figura da princesa Carlota Joaquina foi um exemplo desta atuação. Embora não tenha se consolidado esta união político-administrativa das possessões coloniais americanas, em especial na região do Prata, pôde-se observar o poder de influência e, por vezes, contradições de interesses, com que a Inglaterra, por meio de seus representantes, agia sob os governantes ibéricos visando maximizar seus ganhos, especialmente comerciais.

    The arrival of the Portuguese royal family to Brazil in 1808, resulted in a new configuration of political and trade relations, especially between Portugal and England, in colonial Brazil. The project to join together the Iberian domains in Latin America under the princess's figure of Carlota Joaquina, represented an example of this practice. While this political and administrative blending of American colonial possessions, especially in the Plata region, did not consolidate, it could be noticed the power of influence and contradictions of interests, that England, through their representatives, executed, under the Iberian leaders, in order to maximize their earnings, especially the commercial ones.
