While autobiographical research in literary studies has recently focused mainly on aesthetic and theoretical aspects (for example, in the discussion of ‘autofiction’), this article focuses on the variety of autobiographical writing at the present time. It provides an outline of the autobiographical genre spectrum linked to the three principal purposes (truth, coherence, therapy), which regulate the ‘autobiographical desire’ at the beginning of the 21st century.
