    At an early age, O’Gorman developed a critique of Ranke’s work. Influenced by Heidegger, he began the task of interpreting the past by taking the human being into account. His methodology did not look at the evidence, documents and testimonies as the acknowledgement of historical events, but as keys elements to the interpretation of their purpose.

    Très tôt, O’Gorman a conçu une critique de l’œuvre de Ranke. Influencé par celle de Heidegger, il s’est donné pour but d’interpréter le passé, en tenant compte de l’homme. Sa méthodologie considérait les preuves, les documents et les témoignages non comme le constat d’événements historiques, mais comme les clés de leur interprétation.
