El conflicto entre el “Propio hispano” y el “Otro extranjero” es uno de los temas centrales del cine temprano del director español Carlos Saura. El artículo examina cómo en Ana y los lobos y Mamá cumple cien años se ponen en escena dimensiones de lo extran-jero que se contraponen a las esferas de poder de la sociedad española. Vinculado a la cuestión de la alteridad femenina, transmitida por el cuerpo y la persona de Geraldine Chaplin, y la otredad cultural e histórico-cinematográfica de sus personajes ficticios, se examinará también la representación visual de las identidades del “Propio español” puestas en escena por Saura.
The conflict between the “Propio hispano” and the “Otro extranjero” is one of the central themes in the early films of Spanish film director Carlos Saura. The article examines the role of the actress Geraldine Chaplin, used by Saura in Ana y los lobos and Mamá cumple cien años to represent dimensions of foreignness that confront her to the spheres of power of “their own” Spanish society. Linked to the question of the female, cultural and also cinematografic alterity, the question of the spacial representation of “own” and “other” will also be examined.
