    Isabel I fue y sigue siendo una de las figuras más célebres y admiradas de la historia de Inglaterra. Se trató de una gobernante cuyo reinado, aunque exitoso (al guiar a su pueblo hacia lo que se conocería como “la edad de oro”), estuvo colmado de retos, muchos de ellos cimentados en la construcción social del género.

    En este trabajo se busca analizar tanto su vida como su reinado, bajo uno de los enfoques que más importancia ha cobrado en el estudio de la historia durante las últimas décadas: el feminismo. De esta forma, se presentará la importancia de la relación entre historia y feminismo, así como una serie de conceptos clave con los que se podrá analizar tanto la influencia que tuvieron varias figuras clave en la formación de la “Reina Virgen” como la complejidad de la cuestión matrimonial para una reina con estatus de hombre honorario.

    Elizabeth I was and still is one of the most famous and admired figures in the history of England. She was a ruler whose reign, though successful (in leading her people into what would become known as “the golden age”), was also full of challenges, many of them rooted in the social construction of gender.

    This paper seeks to analyze both her life and her reign under one of the most important approaches in the study of history in recent decades: feminism. In this way, the importance of the relationship between history and feminism will be presented, as well as a series of key concepts with which it will be possible to analyze both the influence that several key figures had in the formation of the “Virgin Queen” and the complexity of the marriage issue for a queen with honorary male status.
